Redesigning and migrating Evolve Boxing off Squarespace

Outcome: Google Lighthouse performance rose from 78 to 94 and best practices from 77 to 100, while a flat monthly Squarespace fee became pay-for-what-you-use hosting.

Evolve Boxing is a boxing gym in Paraparaumu on the Kapiti Coast, run alongside the Kapiti Boxing Club. They are Pattform’s first external partner. The work came in two parts. First we redesigned their website. Then we migrated the finished site off Squarespace onto a foundation that runs faster and costs less to keep online.

The starting point

The site was built on Squarespace. It worked and it already ranked, but it came with the usual trade-offs of a hosted page builder. There was a flat subscription of around NZD $50 a month whether the site was busy or quiet, pages carried the weight of a general-purpose platform, and every change went through the Squarespace editor by hand. It was also due a sharper look that matched the gym.

A redesign first

We redesigned the site into the dark, high-contrast boxing brand it has now: bold type, a deep navy and electric blue palette, and proper structure across the classes, memberships, timetable and contact pages. This included the interactive pieces that make the site useful, like the class filters, the weekly timetable grid you can filter by training type, and the membership term selector that swaps the pricing. The redesign was done while the site was still on Squarespace, so it could be signed off and go live before any of the plumbing changed underneath.

Then the migration

With the new design settled, we moved it onto Pattform’s static website foundation one to one. Every page, every URL, the layout, the fonts and the brand colours came across unchanged, so the redesign the gym had just approved was exactly what shipped on the new stack.

Because the URLs and page structure were preserved exactly, there was nothing for search engines to relearn. The contact form was rebuilt on our own form capture and email pattern, protected against spam and delivering straight to the gym’s existing inbox, so nothing about how enquiries arrive changed either. The domain and mailboxes stayed exactly where they were, so email kept flowing throughout the move.

Faster, and only what it uses

The new site is static, which is the main reason it is quicker. Measured with Google Lighthouse on the live site, performance went from 78 to 94 and best practices from 77 to 100, while the SEO score stayed at 100. Same content, same design, a noticeably faster page.

The hosting model changed too. Instead of a fixed monthly subscription, the site runs on infrastructure that scales to zero. When no one is visiting, it costs next to nothing. The gym now pays for what the site actually uses rather than a flat fee that is the same in a quiet month and a busy one.

Changes in minutes, not by hand

Updates now ship through the same pipeline we use across Pattform. A change is committed and the site rebuilds and deploys on its own within minutes, rather than being edited page by page in a hosted builder. It is faster to make a change and there is a clear record of every one.

The result

Evolve Boxing kept the site they already liked and the rankings they had earned, and got a faster page, hosting that costs only what it uses, and a way to ship updates in minutes. It is also the build that proved our migration path: taking a site off a hosted platform without losing its design or its place in search.

Patterns we reused

Built faster by reusing patterns already proven in Pattform's own products, rather than starting every foundation from zero.

  • Contact form capture
  • Transactional email
  • Domain and DNS migration
